Do your children dislike Christmas pud and mince pies? These Chocolate Reindeer muffins make a fun alternative and can be made before the big day, freeing you up for more festive family frolicking and less time in the kitchen.

Chocolate Reindeer Muffin With Curly Wurly Antlers
Ingredients
(makes 12)
For the Muffins
150g butter
150g sugar
3 eggs
50g cocoa
100g self raising flour
For the Topping
200g soft butter
40g cocoa
360g icing sugar
4 Curly Wurlys
Smarties (For the eyes and nose. You could use other sweets or halved cherries and dried fruit if you prefer.)
Instructions
For the Muffins
- Pre-heat the oven 180C
- Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat the eggs and gradually add them to the butter and sugar mix.
- Fold in the flour and cocoa to make a smooth batter.
- Divide the batter between 12 deep muffin cases and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.
For the Topping
- Cut each Curly Wurly into thirds, then divide each third into two lengthways to make the antlers.
- Cream together the butter, cocoa and icing sugar into a smooth but thick paste. It needs to be able to hold its shape for piping. (If it’s too dry add a teaspoon of milk, and if too wet add a little more icing sugar.)
- When the muffins are completely cold pipe or spread the buttercream topping onto the top of each cake.
- Push a pair or antlers through the frosting and into the sponge of each cake and pop on your Smartie eyes and noses.
